Happy holiday weekend y’all!
First let me say, though it’s totally unrelated, that I LOVE the movie The Color Purple (which is where the title line is from in case you didn’t know…but really you should know that). And while I don’t agree with (and have a mouthful to say about…though I on’t do it here) Shug’s obvious belief that marriage has somehow made her “legitimate” (partly her father’s fault, I know), I most certainly do share in her also obvious elation at having found someone to spend the ret of her life with.
I could spend the next year trying to tell you about the awesomeness that was my wedding and never do it justice. So I”ll let the pictures speak for themselves. They are worth a thousand words right?
So at first I thought that this card meant bad or unfavorable news was coming, specifically something pertaining to work. Turns out I was right….and wrong.
In January, my card was the Ace of Rods reversed, which I took to mean that I would not be making any new moves with regard to my career. I was then approached for what would, for all intents and purposes, be a promotion. Because of all that I had on my plate personally, namely the wedding, I turned it down. Colleagues told me that wouldn’t be the end of the conversation but I didn’t listen.
In February, my card was the Ace of Swords, which, contrary to January’s card, did indicate a new beginning of some sort. I was approached again about the position and again I turned it down. By the end of the month though, I caved to the pressure. One of my superiors came to see me in person to talk to me again about making the move. I began to feel as though if I didn’t take the position, it would be held against me in some way and thus, I’d be shooting myself in the foot career-wise.
And this is where the Knight of Swords for the month of March comes in….
I’ve been presented with what really is an amazing opportunity. I was practically being handed a position (along with a pretty nice raise) that would really make my (already awesome) career if I was successful in it. The change was quick and unexpected. It was also a terribly inconvenient time for all this to be happening.
All of this really embodies the spirit of this Knight. To me, the Knight of Swords is pure kinetic energy. When you see this card, it means things are moving, in major ways, whether you want them to or not. Whether you’re ready or not (and if you’re not, you had better get ready). This Knight charges forth and whatever is in his path will either move or get trampled.
So, even though I was reluctant and anxious and freaking exhausted, it was clear that there was no slowing down for me just yet, even though that’s what I desperately wanted. And so I went through with it. I got the position and my raise. The transition was a bit nerve wracking but I’m doing well in spite of it all.
Toward the end of each year, I like to take some quiet time alone to mentally map out the year to come. Part of this is, of course, reading my cards. I may have my plan but I also want to get a general sense of what the year might have in store for me. I’ll go into each card more in depth during the corresponding month, but below is what my 2013 spread looks like along with my quick and general first thoughts and impressions.
Note: I used the Aquarian Tarot deck. All images are form the Aquarian Tarot.
Overall impressions – Mixed bag this year. Looks like I’ll be dealing with a little of everything; work, love and relationships, money etc. The year doesn’t seem to have one overarching theme as no particular suit is really dominant in the reading. There are a good amount of reversals. That indicates some blocked energy and just overall not everything going my way. Also, there are a whopping four major arcana cards which seem to indicate there I’ll be dealing with some major life themes and reflections. My general sense of the year is good.
Ace of Rods (reversed) – Won’t be making any major new moves career wise this year
Ace of Swords – Important opportunity and subsequent decision to make
Knight of Swords – A message, an air sign man, taking control of a situation
The Tower – new way of thinking based on a major event or life occurrence (fitting since I’m getting married this month)
Three of Pentacles (reversed) – Learning a new skill or anew position but the energy is blocked somehow
Two of Pentacles (reversed) – trouble balancing finances
The Star – something good is going to happen, must listen to my own voice
The Sun – overall a happy month (one of my birth cards)
The Magician (reversed) – I don’t like that this card comes up reversed since it is another one of my births cards and just one of my favorite cards all around. I get the sense that I’m not able to manifest something that I want.
Five of Rods- Trouble and/or opposition at work
Ace of Cups – Baby? Good lord…
Knight of Cups (reversed) – seems to convey the exact opposite energy of the previous card…some kind of trouble in a relationship
